Now, we welcome a new era of advertising. Say hello to the Digital and Social era. But in a few years, social media strategies will be outdated. What will be the next big thing? Two words. Augmented reality.
Here is another neat example. Since I am an Alabama fan, I am going to use this wonderful scenario. It’s Game Day. Tuscaloosa is filled with thousands of people. Most of them are walking around and seeing the sights. A good majority of these people will find themselves at the Walk of Champions. These fans will find themselves in front of the statue of the great Bear Bryant. How awesome would it be if this statue could come to life? What if, when you point your phone at it, a clip similar to the one below would play?
Today, before most of us eat at a restaurant, we would pull our smart phones out and search whether or not it was any good. Did people give it poor ratings? What do they serve? We are a generation of searchers. But what if we didn’t even have to type in the restaurant’s name? All we had to do was use our phone and let it see the restaurant. Instantly, ratings and information of the restaurant will appear on your fingertips.
That will be our world one day. There is no turning back. We will walk around with our phones scanning the streets. We will see interactive posters, restaurant ratings and even discounts at the nearest clothing store. We don’t need to search anymore. Our phones will do it for us, and we will be able to actually see the location. No more second-guessing about whether the building you’re entering is the right location. All because of augmented reality.
If you don’t believe me, ask most people 10 years ago whether or not they believed that cell phones would be used to surf the web and search for nearby restaurants. I am telling you, this is the future of advertising.
For marketers, if you had the capability of standing out among the clutter of noise, wouldn’t you? Augmented reality is your answer. Every marketing and advertising agency need to take this leap of faith. If not, the agency will be eating dust. In fact, with the upcoming release of Google Glass, augmented reality will explode. Keep your company innovative and utilize augmented reality.
Augmented reality will revolutionize advertising. It will revolutionize how we look at the world.
